1) Who Is Joe Liberal?
- I am what you would consider
a left wing liberal.
- I fly my American Flag on my front lawn.
- I sing the National Anthem at hockey games. (with my hat off and with pride).
- I (like most Americans and most countries) was 100% behind fighting the
Taliban
- I am more patriotic than most of the "support the president and country
or get out" folks
- I have a job
- I have done more for my fellow Americans than almost all of the "If
you are a liberal you're anti-American" folks.
- I am protected by my American Constitution so that I can voice my opinion.
Even if it is not popular. (and day by day its getting more popular according
to polls)
- I love my country so much that I will speak out when I see it being taken
over by thugs rather than sit there and blindly let it happen.
- I think that the military has won wars for my freedoms in the past however
the Invasion of Iraq is not one of them. I don't blame any member of the fighting
forces. You can support the troops and wish them no harm while still being
against the operation that they're being used as tools in.
- I don't have to and will not leave my country if I have a different view
as you do. That's why I love my country.

3)With so many liberal - left wing websites,
why did you start another one?
Well..mostly because I have something to say. I like to think
that I have a unique ability to take a step back from an issue and see the
whole picture. That's really something I don't see a lot of people doing because
they seem to be walking around life asleep. Also, I've always liked to be
part of a discussion or debate and can really get excited about composing
some editorial to a forum or message board. ALSO - I sometimes have a different
view on some issues than the websites that you're thinking of.
4) How are you different
from most other Democratic liberals?
For starters - I'm NOT a Democrat! I am registered as Independent.
Through the years I've voted for:
Reagan 1984 - Perot 1988 - Perot 1992- Clinton 1996 - Gore
2000
I've always "been" liberal but I haven't always been "A"
liberal - if that makes any sense. It's been an acquired taste. People seem
to grow up as a kid belonging to and voting for the party of their parents.
I graduated in 1980 so it took a while to get out of that mold.
5) OK, What are some issues you disagree
with most liberals on?
The biggest one has got to be abortion. Deep down I am one
of those truly bleeding heart liberals who cares about everything. I wouldn't
hurt a fly. Somewhere down the line it became uncool and the mark of a "wacko"
to not want to hurt or kill things. But that's me. An uncool wacko. I am against
Capitol Punishment, hurting animals, hurting the environment and to me, it
also includes hurting babys who haven't been born yet. Do I feel strongly
enough to make it a major issue of mine? Not really because I am a male and
I could never have an idea what its like to carry a baby and I think majority
of women should have that vote. However, whether legal or not, I know that
its just wrong to use abortion for a convenient form of birth control because
someone's too irresponsible to use protection. It IS killing a life. Maybe
not as important as a grown human life (maybe it is) but - again- personally,
I can't support killing of any kind. There's other issues but we'll probably
touch on those in the main page from time to time.
6) You sound like Nader. Why don't you
vote for Nader and the Green Party?
When I was a kid there was this product called "Drain
Power". It was this can that had this drain opening stuff in it, much
like Drano. On the top was a small plunger looking rubber thing that when
depressed straight down onto a drain - it would deliver a HUGE aresol mix
of compressed air and this liquid. It was by far the best drain clog remover
I've ever seen. One shot would clear the sink. Within a year of me seeing
it on the shelves, it was gone. I believe I remember someone telling me that
Drano or Liquid Plumber purchased the patents for it and never made it again
because it worked "too good".
7) I don't understand what the hell
your answer to question 6 meant. Why don't you vote for Nader and the Green
Party?
I HATE the Two party system. Actually it's really not a two
party system. This country is loaded with different parties. But the deck
is stacked for the two major parties. You are usually born into the party
your parents are in. Being solidly entrenched, they have gazillions of dollars
more than all the other parties combined many times over. They make billions
off contributions from donors and lobbyists, corporations and criminals unlike
the many other parties. Its been an out of control snowball and there's no
getting around the fact that it is a two horse race. The Democrats and Republicans
HATE each other but will always work with each other to keep it a two horse
race. Money and power are great motivators. Keeping it a two horse race benefits
both parties. I hate it.
I've listened to everything
Ralph Nader has to say. I agree with many things he has said but disagree
with his stupid claim that there is no difference between the Republicans
and the Democrats.
Although now I believe this is a big publicity trip for him, I do think that
at one time he believed what he was saying and was worthy of a vote. . I wish
there was some way to get a third of the country to support a third party
all at once. Sadly, its not going to happen. As much as I resent the term
"throwing your vote away" , its EXACTLY what you do when you vote
for someone like this on a presidential level. It boils down to two parties.
As much as I can't stand it, there's no changing it on a national level. Just
like Coke and Pepsi , Hertz and Avis, Mcdonalds and Burger King, and yes Drano
and Liquid Plumber - all the rest of the pack is far enough behind to not
be a serious threat. I believe that in American politics, one side is wrong
and I believe evil. The other side is somewhat corrupt but mostly right and
I'd rather have them running things.
8) OK so um... You are a Liberal that's
not a Democrat. What is this site about.
All kinds of stuff! It's not a 100% political
site. There will be LOTS of politics and current events. news stories and
babbling comentary by myself. If all goes well there will be a forum for people
to share views on stuff. Anything I can think of that would be interesting
and/or fun will also be here.
9) What influenced you to make this site?
Tons of things. I could go on with a list of reasons and thankyous but here I will just give the "big three".

Listening to WABC radio
as a liberal is like driving past a multi-car accident on the highway. You
know its horrible but you can't not look at the carnage. The jackasses on
that station have pissed me off so much that this website is the result. This
is not a "I hate WABC" or a "Rush or Hannity Sucks" site
- but I will credit that organization as being one of the major motivations
for Joe Liberal.com. Thanks guys.
Bartcop.com
Being from NJ, All the opinions we have had in the media have
been from very radically right wing stooges from Fox News on TV to the GOP
sponsored crap you hear on WABC Radio. I found Bartcop a couple years ago
and reading it has been an addiction ever since. The withdrawal you go through
those rare days when the daily page is not updated is truly painful. For the
longest time Bart has been one voice screaming in a crowd. Now there are others
but he's still one of too few trying to wake people up. The things he has
done for everyone in this country already will live on long after Bartcop.com
and the many sites that it inspired(like this one) are gone.
AMERICA ONLINE
A special thanks goes out to the good folks at AOL. I have always loved getting my opinions heard and the AOL Message boards have always been the avenue for me to do that. I have posted hundreds of messages in AOL boards about everything from music to foods to TV show theme songs to politics. Out of the political posts I've made. about 50% of them have been removed by AOL for whatever reason. Sometimes due to age. Sometimes somebody elses' post in the same thread contained one curse word and they removed the whole thread. Sometimes the post would just disappear but What ever the reason, I am through with staying up for hours composing editorials only to have them erased by the next morning or even weeks later. And without an explanation as to why they were removed. From now on I will speak freely without worrying if I should have copied my work "just in case". Thanks AOL. you did more for me than you'll ever know. Assholes.
10) Why "Green"? Why huge fonts? Why the irritationg colors? It hurts my eyes to see the site, why cant you make it nicer looking?
When I was in fourth grade, the teacher (Mrs Burke) would give out tests and in the middle of the test she would say to relax and "look at something green". She said green is a natural relaxing color. So who am I to argue with Mrs. Burke? I'm just an idiot with a website. She was a teacher. Font selection is based on the authors bad vision and what he thinks looks best on the page. (I assume also to make up for a lack of content volume). Also, even though I am in the minority, I think that this site *IS* in fact nice looking .... to me. On the other hand, I also liked the AMC Gremlin.
11) Why not just use a Blogging software then?
Joe Liberal.com is arguably among the ugliest of the "liberal" websites on the internet. Many hours a week are spent getting the colors just right - resizing fonts - uploading the pages- looking at the result - saying "Shit!!". - redoing pages- resizing fonts again - spell checking again - re-uploading pages- looking at the result - saying "Shit!!" again - and so on..
True, Blogging software would make this a snap. Id be able to just sign in and type and hit enter and I'd be done. However the editors of Joe Liberal.com (myself) have decided to continue with the "index page uploading over and over" method because of two main reasons.
1- I have yet to find some
kind of web publishing software that will create the page exactly the way
I need it to look
2-I really don't like the word "Blog". Just a personal bias but it's kept me from having one for years. Stupid huh?
