MY GOVERNOR IS GAY

AUGUST 14, 2004

I'm sure you've heard NJ Governor James McGreevey "outed" himself in a press conference and also announced he would resign in November.

So i'm in Atlantic City 3 weeks ago. I'm winning in black jack. I have this system which seems to be fool proof ... hehehe. Seriously tho, It works. I should write a book and sell it but naah... I'll tell you what my FOOL PROOF system is.

Joe Liberal's Fool Proof Black Jack

1- Learn how to play

Black Jack is just like tic tac toe. You look at what's there and if you've learned how to play the game you will know EXACTLY what to do. It doesn't matter if you learn the system called Basic Strategy (B.S.) or another system by popular players who write books such as John Patrick etc.. Systems are slightly different. Just find one you think is good and stick with it.

2- Bring a TON of money

If you want to win 100 dollars- bring 1000. If you want to win 150 bring 2000. Why? It's psychological. The trick is to have so much money with you that your little wins and losses seem incredibly small. PLUS you will have enough money to enjoy your trip by eating at great places and seeing things other than casinos.

3- Find a cheap table and bet the minimum

Personally my favorite are $5 tables but i usually end up at 10 or 15 dollar tables. Those are scary because money changes hands 2 and 3 times faster.

4- PICK A RIDICULOUSLY LOW WIN GOAL AND DO NOT GO OVER IT

DONT GET GREEDY. Pick a dollar amount you want to win like 40 or 50 dollars. Realize that USUALLY the game of Black Jack, IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU"RE DOING, is nearly 50/50 odds. And this means that USUALLY it is like a roller coaster ride of winning then losing then winning then losing hands over and over .... you will be down, you will be up. You will lose 2 in a row,,,, 3 in a row,, etc... You will win like that too.

You need a loss limit but make it much higher than your win goal. Buy 200 in chips and play with that to win 50. Remember its all perception. You may be down 50 but don't worry... you will get a winning streak (USUALLY) and be back even or up.

Say you have a goal of 50 dollars .... at a 10 dollar table that's just being up FIVE HANDS.. In the roller coaster game of Black Jack, that's a very small hill.

5- AS SOON AS YOU HIT YOUR WIN GOAL. GET YOUR CHIPS AND GET THE HELL OFF THE TABLE.

DON"T WIN THAT ONE EXTRA HAND TO MAKE 10 DOLLARS MORE (YOU'LL LOSE THAT AND MORE)
DON'T SIT THERE BECAUSE YOU ORDERED A FREE DRINK AND IT'S NOT THERE YET.
DON'T STAY FOR ANY REASON.
GET UP AND WALK AWAY .

You have just won 50 dollars.

Take a walk around the casino and regroup yourself and if you feel like it.... go back in an hour and do it again. And again and again. Be prepared to lose sometimes and remember NEVER to go past your LOSS LIMIT. But more often than not you will do well. If you want to win 300 dollars during a weekend you need to sit at the tables 6 or 7 times (winning).

The key is simple. Learn the game so you can play without thinking, have the funds to play like a big time player. Play like a small time player and leave with a tiny win.

I could probably sell this system for $19.99 a book.

Ohhh sorry, so there I am in Atlantic City.....

So I'm on the elevator going up to my room, and it was around the time where McGreevey was being accused of being in on some organized crime scheme (which in NJ is more rule than exception) and he was all over the local news. So the guy gets in the elevator.... he got in before the old lady in the elevator could get out and crashed right into her without saying as much as an "excuse me" Total jackass. So in the elevator, he says to me "Hear about McGreevey??" and I said "aahh-Yup" and he said "Dude.... I've lived in Woodbridge all my life and people don't know the guy.... in fact everyone around town that knows him knows he's a flaming fag" So I say "ohhhh...yikes!". The door opened and he got out on his floor. I never gave that jackass another thought until Yesterday.

Yesterday around 4:30 PM Eastern Jim McGreevey became the most open and honest guy in politics.

Since I've been alive I remember the following Governors of NJ.

Brendan Byrne
Thomas Kean
Jim Florio
Christie Whitmann
Jim McGreevey

Of all of them I would say he was by far the best one. Yes he reneged on some campaign promises. He, like the rest of them fell into the trap of getting sucked into the lobby of the "pro-parkway tolls" criminals. He probably got involved in some shady campaign money deals. I'm not saying he is Ghandi. I'm saying he's the best we've had in over 40 years. He has worked so hard for the environment in New Jersey that he has virtually been the polar opposite of Bush.. He did some good work with funding stem cell research and he balanced the budget. He did a lot towards helping the horrible NJ motor vehicle division. He's done a lot of good.

So he came on TV yesterday and announced that he is gay, that he had an affair with a guy, (cheating on his wife,,,who was by his side during the announcement) and saying that because all this news would harm the "office of the Governor" he will leave in mid November. I would imagine that an announcement like that takes a lot of guts if you DON'T do it on national TV. He did this coast to coast.

The affair is no doubt wrong. Then again many people in government have had affairs and many get re-elected over and over. Some are good at their jobs. I don't think the "I'm gay" announcement really means he hurt his office or reputation. I'm finding out now that everyone but me seemed to know it already and he just made it official. It was never an issue and I really think that within a week or two of this announcement, it wouldn't have been one. I think he made a mistake by resigning.

So for now I will hear lots of Jim McGreevey jokes. I will find many of them funny (I really am a sucker for inappropriate humor). I will get hours of great entertainment from this by watching Leno and Letterman and The Daily Show... etc..

But I will miss having a NJ Governor that isn't totally corrupt

And I say "totally corrupt" because ... well as you know I try to bill myself as someone who can take a step back and see a whole picture while the world snoozes away. So what I see is this - You don't resign just because you're gay. You don't resign just because you cheated on your wife. So that leads me to believe either: 1- He doesn't want the GOP to use this situation for months as yet another distraction to Kerry trying in vain to tell you what he believes. or 2- There's more dirt on him that he is trying to head off. Personally I think it's probably a little of both. YET, I will miss him because of the great deal of good he's done despite what may yet to come out. We'll see what happens as time passes.

Jim McGreevey seems like a good human being. He also at the moment is the most "real" politician in the government.

I hope he stays in politics.

By the way I won $250 that day three weeks ago using the "system".

Try it. Let me know how you do.
